On April 24, 2025, Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri. Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the state’s first full-fledged Palliative Care Centre in Chumoukedima. The program began with an invocation prayer by Fr. Anthony Dukru,Parish Priest of St. Joseph Parish followed by a welcome address from Sr. Miriam MSJ, Provincial Superior, and the Chairperson’s address by Sr. Philomy, Superior General. A special blessing was given by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, marking the spiritual significance of the occasion.
Short speeches were delivered by Dr. Neikhielie Khimiao (Director, Health & Family Welfare), Dr. Sedevi Angami (Director, CIHSR), DC Abhibav Shivam, NSDMA Joint CEO Johnny Raungmei, and Chümoukedima Town Committee Chairman Mr. Razouvotuo.
The event was attended by civil administration officers, village and ward representatives, and Rev. Fathers and Sisters. The Chief Minister praised the initiative and assured continued government support. The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the centre.
